Life Tributes

The Void

By: Bryan Strain ~ Men’s Wrestling Coach Snow College

I still get lost in moments, where what happened just doesn’t feel real,

But then I remember the phone call and the pain of this absence I feel.

Like when a storm rips through the forest, and a tree is torn from the ground,

It leaves a hole where it was standing, there’s now a void where it used to be found.

You were that tree taken from the forest, all that’s left now is a really big void,

While the world keeps spinning around us, there’s a pain we just can’t Avoid.

You were our teammate, friend, and brother, you were the cornerman everyone heard,

You loved our sport and all of its people, you loved the Lord and all of his word.

The void you left is enormous, and our lives will never be the same,
But in truth we are all better people, your friendship and love are to blame.

We take solace in knowing you were needed, why else would you be taken from us,

There must be something God needed your help with, and nobody else he could trust.

How do we fill the void we are left with, how do we heal this hole in our hearts,

Share our memories with one another, spreading your light is where healing starts.

Your smile will stay bright in our memories, we’ll share stories and have a good laugh, We’ll take chances and lift one another, we’ll hold tight to the bond that we have.

We’ll keep loving the sport we met you in, we’ll try harder to be a good friend,

We’ll have passion and love for our Savior, we’ll have faith to see you once again.

Be an "Adder" Like Luke

My name is Alli Susel and I am one of Luke's Aunts.  I am very proud to be Luke's Aunt and over the past few days, I have learned even more about Luke and my level of pride has just grown from what I have learned.  From the stories and memories and level of positive impact that he made, it has made me realize what an adder he was to people's lives. People that I will never meet, but yet I am so thankful they are sharing these stories, particularly by reaching out to Amy.  How Luke only enhanced people's lives and never took away.  He added laughter, life and love.   Luke was an adder.

As I have tried to make sense of this loss and process anger, I try to focus on finding what good will come from this.  I don't understand why this has happened and I am struggling to piece understanding together about what good can come from such a huge loss.  But what I am hanging on to is who Luke has taught me to be--an adder.   I want to be an adder in my life and not someone who takes.  I want to add more life to others just like he did.  I wish I would have known that he had grown so much in his faith and shared it freely with others.  That is something I have struggled with and something I wish I did more of.

So I am holding fast to the hope that if all of us who knew Luke, keeps his spirit alive through living like he lived, the world will be such a better place.   Can you imagine the huge impact we will have?    And that is what is giving me hope that good will come from this.  I want to be an adder like Luke.   I am so proud to be Luke's Aunt.

A Heart for Jesus

His Greatest Love

Beyond his passion for wrestling, Luke's greatest love was for Jesus Christ. He carried the Word of God in his heart and shared it with everyone he met. Luke's faith wasn't just something he believed—it was something he lived, breathed, and shared with joy and conviction.

Luke's Favorite Verse

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
— John 3:16

Luke lived this verse every day, showing God's love through his actions, his encouragement, and his unwavering support for his teammates and friends. He understood that true strength comes from faith, and he wasn't afraid to share that truth with others.

Donor Memorial in Salt Lake

When Luke received his driver’s license at 16, he made the decision to become an organ donor. That choice reflected who he was—someone full of love, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others. Even in his passing, Luke continued to give.

Luke grew up in Alaska and had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed riding snow machines, hiking, wrestling, and spending time with his brother Dalton and friends. Luke began wrestling for Snow College in Utah in the fall of 2022 and after graduating with his Associate of Science degree was thrilled to transfer to Utah Valley University, where he was set to wrestle Division 1 as a Wolverine in the fall of 2024—a dream he had long pursued.  Always drawn to adventure, Luke guided whitewater rafting trips during the summer of 2024.

Beyond his own pursuits, Luke was a devoted youth wrestling coach. The kids adored him and often asked for him to be in their corner during matches. He had a contagious sense of humor and a natural ability to lift others up. He saw the good in people and the beauty in life, always encouraging those around him to believe in themselves. His warm, twinkling brown eyes reflected that kindness and optimism.

It brings us great comfort to know that someone received the gift of sight through Luke. Our hope is that, through his eyes, they too will experience the world with the same sense of wonder, gratitude, and positivity that Luke carried with him every day.
